Crescent School near Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana

History

Crescent was founded in 1983 in New Orleans.

Since 1983, Crescent has been family-owned ever since. More than thirty years later, Crescent School of Gaming and Bartending, has grown into the largest, most comprehensive bartending and gaming school in the United States.

In 1992, the owners of Crescent had the foresight to see the rapid growth of the hospitality and gaming industries and added courses for table games dealers to the School's leading-edge bar tending curriculum. They also expanded outside of the state of Louisiana, adding a new Crescent campuse in Mississippi, in Gulfport.

Much has happened over the years from an industry and growth perspective.

When Mississippi's first casinos opened in 1992, no one was sure what gambling’s impact would be. Take a look at the numbers: In 2016, 30 commercial casinos on the Gulf Coast and along the Mississippi River created $4.26 billion in direct economic activity, 25,000 new jobs and 20 million visits from out-of-state patrons.

In 2001, Crescent expanded its footprint yet again, launching one of the best schools in  the country for bartenders and casino dealers in the granddaddy of them all - Las Vegas. That move proved to be fortunate as Hurricane Katrina severely damaged the New Orleans and the Gulfport campuses in 2005. Crescent's roof in New Orleans was actually torn off and there was three feet of standing water in Crescent's Gulfport location. Like other businesses in the Big Easy and along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the owners went through the rebuilding process.

Crescent graduates hundreds of bartenders and casino dealers each year, with a never ending focus on job placement.

In 2017, with four locations, Crescent School of Gaming and Bartending is an accredited school. Crescent's talented staff have the connections and reputation necessary to get students the jobs they desire upon graduation. And, once a student graduates from Crescent, they have a lifetime membership. At any time in the future, they can go to any of Crescent's campuses and take additional courses in their chosen specialty (whether it be bartending or dealing).

Teaching Philosophy

Crescent believes in personalized instruction

Everyone learns differently. Some are visual learners, while others are experiential learners. Our classes are small enough to customize each student's experience. Whether in the bartending program or the casino dealing program, students move through instruction at their own pace. They can take as long as they need to understand all of the concepts well enough to ace an interview or audition. Or, if they already know the basics, they can complete the bartending program in as little as three weeks, and the 3-game dealing instruction in about three months.

Crescent instructors are experienced, patient, and knowledgeable

They know what it takes to make it as a top bartender or table games dealer. They want you to succeed. Our instructors treat every student as their customer and works with each student to understand what type of job he/she wants upon graduation so that instruction can be specifically geared to that objective.

In addition to the instructors, each Crescent location has a Placement Director that is at your disposal. They make it their job to know everyone in the business in the area where you want to work. Even if you want a job that's not close to one of our four campuses, we'll make calls on your behalf to get the ball rolling.

All in all, Crescent's mission is to provide willing individuals with the technical knowledge and practical experience necessary to succeed and excel in rewarding positions in the gaming and hospitality industries.
