Fun Facts About Cocktails That You May Not Know
Bartending and cocktail culture are truly incredible! This industry is filled to the brim with interesting tales, from the history of how each cocktail was created to the complexity that goes into making some of our favorite beverages. Since the first usage of the word "cocktail" in print in the early 1800's, the art of mixology and the libations that it forms have been very exciting.
Here's a taste of some of the interesting facts found in cocktail history.
Incredibly Effervescent Champagne
Each bottle of champagne has three times more pressure than a car tire, and there are an estimated 49,000,000 bubbles in every bottle. A pressure of 5 to 6 atmospheres is built up in the bottles, requiring stout bottles and thick corks.
The reason sparkling wine bottles are thicker than regular wine bottles is because they must withstand the pressure of the carbon-dioxide produced in the second fermentation which can reach 90 pounds per square inch.
Square Bottles of Jack
Jack Daniels is a brand of Tennessee whiskey and the top selling American whiskey in the world. As well as being original and standing out from other bourbon bottles, Jack Daniels' bottles are designed square so they won’t roll about and smash when being transported. They’ve been that way since 1895.
The Art of a Pink Drink
The Bellini was invented sometime between 1934 and 1948 by Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy. Cipriani, thought that the pink drink looked like a saint’s toga that was seen in a painting by Giovanni Bellini. That's why he named the cocktail after the 15th-century Venetian artist.
